Finding 'Notes' after gedcom download

Post by Peter Corbett » Wed May 19, 2010 2:27 pm

I have a new laptop and have downloaded the latest Kith Kin and imported my gedcom file.
When I look at the notes for each person all I can see is a reference number. How do I retrieve these notes please. Many thanks for your help.

Hi,
Please check that the notes were actually included in the GEDCOM file.
GEDCOM files can be opened using any text editor such as WordPad.

Dear Nick,
Thanks, The notes are all there in the origianal gedcom file.....its just that they haven't been imported so that you can read them easily. All it gives is a reference number. I can see the notes in the gedcom format and in the gedcom file as you suggest but they contain all sorts of other information jumbled within it and so its not easy to read.
On my desktop in the last version they transferred seamlessly. I wonder if there are any settings I should have applied before creating the gedcom file to transfer to my new laptop?

Many thanks,
Peter Corbett

Hi,
If you used Kith and Kin Pro to create the GEDCOM file, the only settings you should use when exporting the GEDCOM file are:

Export all families
Aliases
Sources
Notes
Non-GEDCOM user fields
Privacy level - set this above your maximum used level
Receiving system = Kith and Kin Pro

Do not set "Ref numbers".
Please note that pictures are not included.
