Renaming databases in Of that Ilk Pro

haven't had a need earlier to organise several different databases that utilise some common information but -
when renaming a database is there a limit on the number of characters that can be used .
Am finding that only about 5 character names can be used. Is this normal or do I have a glitch in the program. Am using latest version.

The database engine imposes a limit on the length of the full path to the database so the number of characters left for naming a database depends on the path to the folder where the database is stored.

With all databases stored in the standard "C:\Program files\Kith and Kin Pro\Data" folder this leaves 16 characters for the database names.

Thanks Nick I was not aware of that restriction - but it's understanabale when explained.

I presently have the database on my desktop - can I simply move it to the \data\ directory and then all will be well?

Or what is involved in having OTIlk recognise the new location - simply Open and browse for the location?

You should copy it to the \Data\ folder not move it, so that IlkPro will still be able to open the old one. Having done that, in IlkPro use "File | Database | Open" and use the "Browse" button to look for the \Data\ folder and open the new copy of the database. Now you can delete the old database from your desktop.

Have not progressed your advice yet with the program but simply wanted to thank you for your prompt response with the solution to a niggling issue. If that restriction is not covered in the Help file - and I did look before asking for advice - perhaps it may be of assistance to others to point it up in the Help file.
