Julian calendar date entry

Post by jeremyhoj » Sun Sep 23, 2007 1:33 pm

Should dates in the Julian calendar up to Mar 24 be entered as if New Year's Day is on Mar 25 (ie using the 'preceding' year - Old Style) or as if New Year's day was on 1 Jan? For example, 10 Feb 1653 (when NYD was 25 Mar) is sometimes written 10 Feb 1653/4. Should it entered as 1653 or 1654?

K&KPro makes no allowance for the new year starting on 25 March so you should enter the year as if the new year started on 1 January.

In your example, 10 Feb 1653/4 should be entered as 10 Feb 1654.
