IlkPro will not start up at all?

Does the error message say what the filename is?

yes it says Of that Ilk Pro could not open the current database in C:/program files \of that ilk pro\data\Paula"s family reason invalid file name.

on another try the message read
Access violation at address 00522DDO in madule Ilk Pro Read address 00000008
All of which I have no idea what it means.

This is indeed an invalid file name. Quote marks " are not permitted in Windows file names. An apostrophe might have been OK but personally I would avoid any punctuation in file names.

To get IlkPro to work again, use "Start | Programs | Of that Ilk Pro | Database administrator", click on the "Kith_Kin" alias and change the PATH variable on the right to "C:\Program files\Of that Ilk Pro\Data\Sample". Close down the administrator, saving the changes.

Use Windows Explorer to find the "C:\Program files\Of that Ilk Pro\Data\" folder. in there you should find the "Paula"s family" folder. Rename it to "Paulas family".

Now you should be able to open IlkPro. Use "File | Database | Open" to open your database.

Hello Nick
Thank you for the reply.
I have followed your instructions and removed Paula's file as it did not contain information. I tried to create a new branch of the family and called it Paul's so that was the last thing I can remember doing on the computer a few months back. This problem has only arisen now when I tried to get back into Of That Ilk. After doing what you requested the message came up Access violation 004BA7BE ilk pro exe address FFFFFFFF. So now I am further confused. I left you an e mail too in the hope you could come onto my computer to help. Many thanks Di

I think you need to reinstall Of that Ilk.

Use "Start | Settings | Control Panel | Add/Remove programs" to uninstall IlkPro. Then delete the folder "C:\Program files\Common files\Borland Shared\BDE". Now reinstall Of that Ilk Pro.

Sorry, we don't do remote access to user's PCs.

Thanks for that Nick
I will give it a go. Is there any need to worry about loosing files? Which files do I need to back up to re install?

Your data should remain intact but it would be safer to backup everything in the "Of that Ilk Pro\Data\ folder.
