We are moving our Web site to a new server on 3 April 2010.
As a result we will have to disable the on-line forums on that date so that we can move them to the new server. The forums will be available again within 48 hours (probably less) as the DNS servers gradually pick up the new spansoft.org IP address. We apologise for any inconvenience.

SpanSoft are delighted to announce the release of Kith and Kin Pro 3.
The original Windows genealogy database gets a makeover.
We have improved the program's unique best-selling user interface as well as adding a host of new features. These are just some of them:

• Added Adobe PDF file export for all reports.
• Added Soundex and Metaphone searches. This allows users to search for similar sounding surnames.
• Added Soundex and Metaphone code calculator.
• Families can be arranged into selectable "Layers". This allows the user to "grey out" all families except the ones he wants to work on.
• Simplified the Search Window. As well as the V2 SQL queries, users will be able to carry out much simpler searches.
• Function to save SQL queries to file.
• Several different picture records can link to the same image file.
• Pictures can be arranged into an order defined by the user.
• Pictures can be added to source references and source documents.
• Drag and drop pictures from Windows added.
• Option to exclude picture files from database copying.
• Web page export uses a CSS stylesheet. This makes the Web pages much easier to customise.
• Supplied with several pre-defined stylesheets.

TreeDraw updated for Kith and Kin Pro 3.
SpanSoft are delighted to announce this release which makes TreeDraw compatible with the new Kith and Kin Pro 3. TreeDraw now imports data from Kith and Kin Pro V3 databases and GEDCOM files only. Kith and Kin Pro V1 and V2 are not supported.

Note that TreeDraw chart files which were previously imported from Kith and Kin Pro V1 or V2 databases should have their database links changed by using "File | Linked databases" (only necessary if you are using the "Update text" or "Auto-update text" features).

If you only use TreeDraw to import data from GEDCOM files, it is still worthwhile updating to this version since the aging BDE database engine has been replaced with DBISAM.

Current TreeDraw V3 users should update their software by using "Help | Check for updates". Users of TreeDraw V1 or V2 can upgrade for only £10 GBP by visiting the Upgrades Page.

Kith and Kin Pro version 3 builds on its unique user interface.
Kith and Kin Pro V3 is currently in beta-testing and looks set for release in May 2009.

Kith and Kin Pro version 3 is currently in development.
Due to the change in database engine (we are at last ditching the unsupported Borland Database Engine), it will no longer be possible to convert the old type of .TRE data files created by the Windows 3.1 version of "Kith and Kin" (prior to Dec 1998).

We will continue to offer a .TRE data file conversion service for a small fee.

Kith and Kin Pro V3 will support conversion of the following types of data:

• Kith and Kin Pro V1 databases
• Kith and Kin Pro V2 databases

When Kith and Kin Pro V3 is released we will be offering free upgrades to customers who purchased V2 after 16 Feb 2009. This will allow any customers who still have the old .TRE files to upgrade and convert them using V2.

We have released bug-fix updates for both Kith and Kin Pro (V2.1.4) and for TreeDraw (V3.1.6).
These updates fix some problems caused by Windows Vista. A list of the changes can be found in the change logs for Kith and Kin Pro and TreeDraw.
Registered users can update the software automatically by using "Help | Check for updates".

We are increasingly having problems responding to emails and product purchases. This appears to be because customers are either providing invalid reply addresses or there is a problem at the customer's mail server.
Clearly we wish to provide fast replies to support emails and provide new customers with their registration keys quickly.
In order to try to alleviate these situations we have added a list of people who have contacted us but who we have been unable reply to. This list is available here.

We have added the change logs (the list of program changes and bug-fixes) to the Kith and Kin Pro and the TreeDraw pages. Now you can check for new features and bug-fixes before you use "Help | Check for updates" in the program.

This is a Windows Vista compatibility release and the program is free for all registered users of Kith and Kin Pro V2.

Please ensure that you have upgraded to Kith and Kin Pro V2.1.1 or later.

This means that existing Kith and Kin Pro and Of that Ilk Pro users will require a registration key to register the new software. We are currently e-mailling registration keys to all registered users. This may take around a week to complete so please bear with us. If you have not received a registration key within a reasonable time after that please contact us.

Note that Of that Ilk Pro has been discontinued. Existing Of that Ilk Pro V2 users can upgrade to Kith and Kin Pro V2.1.0. We will also be sending out Kith and Kin Pro registration keys to registered Of that Ilk Pro users.

If you try to open the help file in any of our programs running under Windows Vista (and possibly "Longhorn") you will get the following error message:
"The help for this program was created in Windows Help format, which was used in previous versions of Windows and it is not supported in Windows Vista."

Quite why Microsoft have omitted the help system from Vista is unclear. If you have any queries regarding this issue please contact Microsoft.
Subsequent releases of our software will use a different help engine.

All editions of TreeDraw from V3.1.0 and Kith and Kin Pro from V2.1.0 are now Vista compatible.
