Can't import Kith & Kin Gedcom files into Ancestry.com t

Post by qcikeepfam89 » Fri May 28, 2010 8:10 pm

I don't know what I'm doing differently, but for some reason, my gedcom files created as I always have to upload to Ancestry.com/Ancestry.ca, etc. keep giving me the following error:

Error: The file you have specified (mcd2010.ged) does not appear to be a valid GEDCOM file, please try again.

Any suggestions greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Betty Stewart

Hi,
Please check that the copy of mcd2010.ged that you have on your hard drive actually contains GEDCOM data. You can do this by opening mcd2010.ged with any text editing program such as WordPad.

A valid GEDCOM file created from K&KPro will start with:

Can't import Kith & Kin Gedcom files into Ancestry.com

Hi, Nick

I've cut and pasted the first few lines of my gedcom for you to have a look at. It appears to contain the proper info., but something I read on the forum mentioned a problem with the date format.

Thanks for your help.

Regards,
Betty Stewart

Can't import Kith & Kin Gedcom files into Ancestry.com

Ancestry.com's helpline was of no help - so I tried a few things and have discovered that if I use Microsoft Internet Explorer as my browser when uploading my gedcom files, it works! This is very inconvenient as I do not like IE and prefer to use Mozilla Firefox.

I'll be contacting Ancestry's tech guys on Monday.

Cheers,
Betty Stewart
