Conversion of old V1 and V2 databases

Post by Nick Hunter » Wed May 13, 2009 3:08 pm

I've posted this as a sticky since a few users have sent us emails about this.

You cannot open old K&KPro V1 or V2 databases with V3.

K&KPro 3 uses a completely different database engine so a separate conversion utilty is provided with K&KPro 3 to let you continue to use your old data.

Use "Start | Programs | Kith and Kin Pro V3 | Database conversion to V3" to start the utility.

If you are using Windows Vista, you may need to run the conversion utility in Administrator mode (Right-click and choose "Run as administrator").

Kith and Kin Pro V3 database conversion utility Help
=================================

Prerequisites
----------------
BDE:
You must have previously installed a copy of Kith and Kin Pro V1 or V2. The Borland Database Engine used in these versions is not supplied with Kith and Kin Pro V3 or this conversion utility but is required for conversion. The last version of Kith and Kin Pro V2 is still available from the Downloads page. Installing V2 will also install the BDE and can then be uninstalled.

Kith and Kin Pro V3:
Must be installed and registered. Please visit http://www.spansoft.org if you need to purchase a registration key.

Supported data
-------------------
Databases produced by Kith and Kin Pro V1 or V2 can be converted using this utility. Older Kith and Kin .TRE files cannot be converted. We offer a .TRE file conversion service. Please contact Support@SpanSoft.org

Operation
------------
The utility will generate a new Kith and Kin Pro V3 database when you lick on the "Generate new database" button. The original database (V1 or V2) will remain intact.

The utility will automatically detect the default Kith and Kin Pro V3 root
database folder and the database last opened by Kith and Kin Pro V1 or V2. You can change these if you wish.

Database Language:
If you are using a non-English language, select the language from the drop down list. For English languages, leave this setting at "ANSI Standard". The Database Language only affects the way that strings are sorted.
