GEDCOM import errors

Post by LA Holden » Sun Dec 18, 2005 11:45 am

Being very new to this family history lark or should I say producing trees I am most frustrated by not understanding what is wrong when I am told I have 401 errors when importing a Gedcom file from Family Historian into Treedraw. I only have 95 records so far. What is it I am doing wrong ??

Many Thanks for any pointers

You need to take a look in the error log file GEDErr.txt by clicking on the "Errors" button. This will detail all the errors.

Mostly they will be tags (data) which are invalid GEDCOM or tags which have been ignored by TreeDraw because it doesn't use them.

Further to Nick's reply.

There are some instances of certain programs offering alternatives - e.g. CHR (for Christening) instead of BAPM (for Baptism). All you have to do is to check the settings in the Export routine for the software you are using and ensure that they match those which TreeDraw is expecting.

Where there are mismatches, altering the settings is usually straightforward.

Graham
