You do not need to install the old Kith and Kin. You do need to copy your old .TRE files onto the new PC (store them anywhere) and then use "Start | Programs | Kith and Kin Pro | File conversion (V3.1x)". This will allow you to create new K&KPro databases using the existing data from your old .TRE f...

Have you tried selecting different root people with "Generations" set to "All"? For example, if you select a root person one generation further back do you then get only 3 generations imported? If so, then it suggests that there is a break in the Legacy data somewhere at your fourth generation.

It is possible to create a chart containing everyone in a family tree. To accomplish this you would have to import several descendant trees into the same TreeDraw chart and manually rearrange the various branches, adding lines and/or removing duplicate people. Each imported branch would start at a d...

What happens when you try to open one of the databases?

Did you have to convert old K&K .TRE files for this upgrade?

What version of Kith and Kin were you running before?

How did you transfer the databases to your new PC?

The "Tree Layout" report in K&KPro uses the sizes and positions of the family rectangles as they appear on the screen and you cannot change these directly. However, you can make the boxes print bigger by changing the "Pages wide by page tall" settings. Printing the report over more pages will make t...

The birth, death, etc details are all part of a single text element and so must have the same font. If you wanted different font colours for birth and death details, you would have to split the personal details into two text elements and then use "Format | Font" or the Colour Palette to change the c...

TreeDraw automatically groups together the husband and wife in Descendant Trees.

If you wish to have a different style of layout then you must ungroup each spouse block, add a new box and rearrange the text to fit.

The standard method for producing a chart with "everybody" on it is to use "Import | Descendant tree" to import several branches of the tree into the same TreeDraw chart and arrange them to fit. This will probably involve adding/removing lines and deleting duplicate people where the branches join.

Kith and Kin Pro does not handle so called "dual dates" eg. 1722/23, other than entering them as "Date phrases", ie. with an apostrophe in front. This will allow you to enter them but they will not be used by the program for date calculations. I realise that this is a bit of a shortcoming but the cu...

This sort of family does not apply in K&KPro. Only the real parents of a child should appear as the parents in a family.

Please use "Start | Programs | Kith and Kin Pro | Borland database fix utility". Select the "Kith_kin" alias and then rebuild each of the tables in turn.

Having done that, start up Kith and Kin Pro and use "File | Database | Pack".

What sort of borders did you have in mind?

Simple boxes can be added using the rectangle tool.

Clip-art borders can be added by pasting an image into TreeDraw.

Either you need TreeDraw version 3, or you need a PDF exporter which works like a printer driver and will have all the paper sizes you need.

The Acrobat Distiller printer driver is reporting the wrong page size values back to TreeDraw.

TreeDraw Legacy Edition V3 exports PDF files directly without the need for Distiller. If you wish to upgrade to V3 please contact CustomerService@MillenniaCorp.com
